Reopened in April 2017, Shimoda Tokyu Hotel features hot-spring baths, a Japanese and Western fusion-style restaurant and an outdoor pool. The location is great, the view splendid, the staff welcoming and nice.

The menu at dinner is really boring. They should rather propose a buffet and not pretend to a gastronomic experience which was a fail. At checking, the staff asking if it is our first time at the hotel whereas we are staying in this hotel at least once or twice a year since 2012…

Wonderful location and very comfortable stay

The hotel is lovely - right on the water with an amazing view and pretty garden. The staff were really friendly and helpful and spoke great English. The room was so comfortable with everything we needed for our trip and a perfect view of the sea.

Nothing - just note it is 10 minutes walk to town so we took the shuttle bus often or walked back after dinner.

We enjoyed our stay.

The breakfast was excellent…so much to choose from and food was good. The location is a bit inconvenient but the shuttle service was very helpful and the shuttle driver was the best! I think the hotel should offer an another shuttle service from hotel to town around 18:00 to 19:00 for people who wants to shuttle to town for dinner. The front desk and concierge was very helpful.

Sunrise above an amazingly clear bay

Parking, check-in, room view, location... everything was wonderful and better than years ago as the hotel has had a refresh. Highly recommend if you want a great Shimoda hotel but dont require being on a sand beach like Prince Shirahama or Tatado Yakatokan. The bay below the Tokyu bar far the best for swimming with no waves and crystal clear water.

The view from my room, over the garden looking onto the bay, was magnificent: the Pacific Ocean. The garden's a nice place to enjoy the view, too, and there's a path down to the beach - about a five-minute walk.

We enjoyed our stay. We might consider stay at this hotel again.

Buffet style breakfast was very good. Fresh, tasty and many to choose from. Wonderful public hot bath where you can see the ocean view. The hotel provided shuttle services from the station.

Service at the restaurant for dinner. It was hard to get attention from the server. Dinner plate should be warmed up to serve hot food.

Stunning location and lovely service.

Beautiful location between town and beach. Room offered ocean views. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Shuttle service to the train station was great. Onsen, particularly outdoor bath, was lovely.

The only restaurant on premises served expensive western food - we walked into town for reasonably priced local cuisine.
